'Testing Before Turkey' Coronavirus Tests
El Cerrito residents who plan to gather with family or friends are encouraged to get tested this week.
EL CERRITO, CA — Contra Costa County's health department is strongly discouraging residents from holding or attending Thanksgiving celebrations, especially with the announcement that the county has moved into the Purple Tier, California's strictest.
Under the Widespread or Purple Tier, indoor gatherings are prohibited, and outdoor gatherings are only allowed with a maximum of 3 households.
But realizing that some people will gather for Thanksgiving anyway, a "Testing Before Turkey" campaign is underway.

" We encourage everyone — especially people planning to attend gatherings — to get tested 5-7 days in advance to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission," a public information officer said in an email to Patch.
There are 13 testing locations around the county, and the tests are free to anyone who lives or works here.
