What's Open, What's Closed for MLK Day

Here's a brief run-down of what's open and closed in El Cerrito on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 21, a national holiday.

The late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was born Jan. 15, 1929, and his birthday is celebrated as a national holiday on the third Monday in January, which this year is Jan. 21.

Here's a list of what's open and closed in El Cerrito on Monday. 

El Cerrito City Hall: Closed.

El Cerrito Recycling Center: Closed. 

El Cerrito Swim Center: Masters 8-9 a.m., Water aerobics 9-10 a.m. and Laps from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

El Cerrito Public Library: Closed (along with the Kensington Library and other Contra Costa County public libraries).

West Contra Costa Unified School District: All schools closed.

Garbage, green waste and recycling service: Curbside collection of Recycling, Green Waste and Garbage will occur as normally scheduled.

Department of Motor Vehicles and other state of California offices, federal offices: Closed.

Banks: Most banks – including Citibank, Chase and Mechanics – will be closed. 

Stores, businesses: Varies, though many will be open.
