Does Elk Grove Need Its Own FM Radio Station?

One local broadcaster says yes.

The Federal Communications Commission is opening up the airwaves to more low-power FM radio stations, and one local broadcaster thinks Elk Grove should take advantage of the opportunity.

Denny Gomez, an Elk Grove resident who recently started an online-only public affairs program called Radio Elk Grove, is polling Elk Grovians to see if they're interested in starting a community radio station.

The FCC could begin taking applications for new low-power stations, which must be run by a locally-based non-profit group, as early as Fall 2012, according to the Prometheus Radio Project.
