Elk Grove Blvd/Hwy 99 Construction Starts in September

Highway 99 on- and off-ramps will change at Elk Grove Boulevard.

Elk Grove drivers may experience some delays on Elk Grove Boulevard and Highway 99. Interchange modifications begin next month and aren't expected to be complete until summer 2014.

The on- and off-ramps for Highway 99 will relocate and a new traffic signal will be installed with the hopes of improving traffic flow, according to the City of Elk Grove's latest newsletter.

The project is mostly funded by a state grant from Proposition 1B, transportation bond program, according to the city.

Here are the changes in store for the interchange, according to the city:

  • The northbound on-ramp to SR-99 is being relocated to the south on East Stockton Boulevard, next to the existing off-ramp.
  • Eastbound motorists heading north onto 99 will turn right, instead of left, so the signal at the northbound on-ramp can be removed.
  • Westbound travelers will continue to turn right onto the existing northbound on-ramp.
  • A new signal will be built on East Stockton at the on/off-ramps and also serve as the new entrance to the Village Shopping Center.
  • Other ramp improvements include adding a deceleration lane to the existing northbound off-ramp and widening the existing southbound off-ramp.
