Showing off their impressive abilities, the EGCS alumni both scored their first major league goals within minutes of each other.

Two Elk Grove Charter School (EGCS) Alumni are putting their skills on display in a big way! Mario Penagos and Julian Chavez, former students and 2020 graduates of the Elk Grove Charter School, went on to join the Sacramento Republic FC Major League academy Soccer team. Their preparation at EGCS helped prepare them to shine as they made their major league debut.

Showing off their impressive abilities, the EGCS alumni both scored their first major league goals within minutes of each other. The first and second goals helped contribute to the final win for the Sacramento Republic versus the Portland Timbers with a final score of 2-1.
Both players are a part of the academy professionals signed on with the Sacramento Republic FC. In the academy, they have the opportunity to get professional training and experience to help accelerate their pro careers. Their time at EGCS gave them the resources and support to expand their future opportunities. The Charter School is thrilled to see their success!
