Elk Grove High Sophomore Wins 'Miss Teen Asia' Pageant

Elk Grove's own Michelle Thach, 15, won the Miss Teen Asia Sacramento pageant Saturday night.
Like other beauty pageants, the contest includes a swimsuit competition and talent round—but organizers say it also emphasizes "celebrating Asian culture in the Sacramento area."
Thach, a sophomore at Elk Grove High School, plays the piano and flute, dances hip-hop and hopes to be a pediatrician, according to her bio.

"I was very nervous and wanted everything to be over!" Thach writes on her blog about pageant night. "As I stepped onto the stage with my ethnic wear, I heard all my family and friends cheering me on and just like that, I wasn’t scared anymore!"
