Elk Grove Lands 2,500 New Jobs

ELK GROVE, CA - Fremont based NRC Manufacturing has announced plans to build a 230,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Elk Grove, in the Sacramento area. The new new facility will eventually employ 2,500 people.

NRC Manufacturing will be the first to locate in Elk Grove’s Southeast Policy Area, zoned for corporate office and manufacturing facilities.

The company is a prototype manufacturer of electronic components used inside consumer and business telecommunications, defense, and consumer electronics devices.

Customers include Apple, which also has a facility in Elk Grove.

NRC Manufacturing CEO Ratha Chea said his company considered taking its manufacturing overseas, but ultimately settled on Elk Grove, “When we first started discussing this project with the City a number of months ago, we knew immediately that Elk Grove was where we wanted to be. We considered off-shoring this project, but we determined quickly that Elk Grove met all of our search criteria while keeping us in close proximity to our Silicon Valley headquarters. The City went out of its way to help us put this project together.”

“This is a game changer for Elk Grove. This project confirms the Council’s commitment to growing our business and employment base and driving economic development forward,” said Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis. “The Southeast Policy Area will be a catalyst for significant job growth in Elk Grove and the region.”

The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. It will include 50,000 SF and approximately 620 new full-time employees.

The economic impact of this decision will be felt beyond Elk Grove. “This is a major win for Elk Grove and the region,” said Barry Broome, President and CEO of the Greater Sacramento Area Economic Council. “Attracting a Bay Area manufacturer to Elk Grove sends a strong signal to the market that doing business in the Greater Sacramento region makes sense for Silicon Valley and allows organizations like NRC Manufacturing to achieve their full potential through lower costs, proximity to the Bay Area, and a young, highly educated workforce.”
