Escaped Calif. Inmate With Skull Tattoo Captured
Remember escapee Corey Hughes? Sheriff's office officials said he is 'home for the holidays' in the San Joaquin County Jail.
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CA — An escaped inmate has been captured in San Joaquin County, sheriff’s officials said. Corey Hughes, who gained notoriety not so much for his escape but more because of the distinctive skull tattoo covering his entire face, went missing from his work crew in Stockton late last month. He was last seen near Interstate 5 and Country Club Boulevard on Nov. 27.
Hours after Hughes' escape, officials shared the 27-year-old's photo on social media, garnering hundreds of tips about him from all over the country. Despite his conspicuous face, Hughes remained on the run until he was captured in the 6000-block of Don Avenue Thursday morning.
Sheriff's officials said Hughes was sentenced on a weapons charge and was housed in the Honor Farm Jail. Before escaping, his release was scheduled for Feb. 2, 2018.
