Fittest of Elk Grove Event Draws 50 Participants

The 2013 4th Annual Fittest of Elk Grove Event / Health & Wellness Fair took place on Saturday September 28th in Old Town Elk Grove at the Old Town Plaza.

The event benefited the Elk Grove Police Activities League and has been able to raise over $28,000 in the last four years for local charities.

The major sponsors of this year's event were Future Energy Savers and the Elk Grove Auto Mall.

Fifty people participated in the city-wide fitness competition. There were a handful of returning participants and many first timers to this event.

The youngest competitors were 13 years old (Shasta Ayala and Brennon McCloughan) and the oldest competitor was 63 years old (Otis Drewry).

Participants represented the following local gyms: Elk Grove Strength and Conditioning, California Family Fitness, Level 10 FitCamp, WarriorZ Health & Fitness, Nor Cal Fit and a few people have their own home gym.  

There were 17 vendors from the health and fitness industry as well as local businesses from the community. Food Trucks were also on site feeding all of the athletes and spectators. Byers Gymnastics did gymnastic demonstrations throughout the day that featured their top male teenage performers and some of their youngest boys 5-8 years old.

"We want to unite the City of Elk Grove and get people together for health and wellness as well as host a fitness competition where people can see all of the different ways to train," said Event Founder & Organizer Charlie Zamora, of WarriorZ Health & Fitness. "It doesn't matter if you are trying to stay in shape, get back into shape, get ready for a 5K run, obstacle course or mud run event. Everyone learns something about their self when they compete. Athletes has a great day where their families get to watch, the community got to see them and they get to learn something about their self."
