Grade the Public Official: EGUSD Superintendent Steven Ladd

He's been both praised and vilified over the last year. How do you think he's doing?

When teachers and administrators in the Elk Grove Unified School District over district plans to cut staff and benefits, Superintendent Steven Ladd became a lightning rod for dissatisfaction with the district's priorities.

While Ladd as a gesture of solidarity, critics said his more-than-$250,000 pay was already excessive, and parents even made a video slamming him.

The pressure eased, however, when district and teachers' union officials in March that was ratified by 94 percent of the union's members.

A major proponent of vocational education, Ladd has served the district since 2004, and district officials cite that consistency as one of the reasons for the district's relatively high test scores. He oversees the largest school district in Northern California, with over 60,000 students that speak more than 80 languages. (Click here to read his official bio).
