Lobo, McCourtney Fires: Containment Improves In Nevada County

Roughly 30 to 40 structures destroyed.

NEVADA COUNTY, CA – Containment improved Tuesday on the McCourtney and Lobo fires in Nevada County,

The McCourtney Fire, burning in the area of Grass Valley, McCourtney Road and Highway 20, last was recorded as 72 acres with 60 percent containment, Cal Fire said.

The Lobo Fire, near the Lobo Trail, Rough and Ready, was at 880 acres with 23 percent containment, the agency said Tuesday morning. Some 30 to 40 structures were destroyed, according to YubaNet.com.

Air firefighting crews worked from the Grass Valley Air Attack Base to fight the local fires, CalFire's Nevada-Yuba-Placer unit said.

These blazes are among multiple fires burning in Northern California. At least 10 confirmed killed in the wildfires burning in Mendocino, Sonoma and Napa counties, threatening homes and businesses and prompting mass evacuations as well as school cancellations and power outages.
