Merryhill Preschool Students Host 8th Annual Literacy Fair
Students, their families and community members attended the event, which featured reading activities, live music, special guests & book fair
In recognition of the Read Across America program, students at Merryhill Preschool in Stockton recently hosted their eighth annual Literacy Fair, which featured guest readers, live music, an outdoor library and various reading activities to promote early literacy. More than 160 people, including students, their families and community members, took part in arts and crafts, heard stories from special guests, including local dentists, paramedics and former students, and purchased books from the Scholastic Book Fair. Special guest Clifford the Big Red Dog made an appearance to take photos with attendees. This year’s event was also dinosaur-themed, and attendees enjoyed various dinosaur-related activities and books, as well as a visit from a Tyrannosaurus rex.
The National Education Association’s Read Across America program is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading.
