There's also a beach-themed cafe—complete with palapa—where staff will serve up beer and wine along with pizzas, smoothies and even Nutella-filled dessert sandwiches.

Lasers and music will add to the faux-surfing experience.

"It will be more upbeat inside [the FlowRider] and more chill and relaxing on the outside," said manager Sandro Padilla.

The Parvizyars originally planned to open Surf Xtreme last summer, but Darla Parvizyar said the remodel proved to be more complicated than they anticipated.

"This was an unusual undertaking for everyone involved, building an indoor Palapa, enclosing an indoor surfing machine and keeping humidity out!" she said in an email. "It took some time to get everything right."

Surf Xtreme will be open from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 4:00 to 11:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on weekends. Those hours will become longer once school gets out, Padilla said.
