Crespi Freshman Qualifies for State in Shot Put

The Celts have high hopes for freshman Amir Patterson in the upcoming championships.

Crespi High shot putter Amir Patterson qualified for the second annual California Indoor High School Track & Field Championships at a meet Saturday at Cerritos College.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound freshman placed third of 20 in the boys varsity competition, which mostly included juniors and seniors.

“Throwing the varsity 12-pound ball, Patterson won his flight by almost two feet with a state qualifying throw of 50 1/2,” said Mike Mayer, Patterson's former coach. "Crespi throws coach Tim Selby has only had Amir for a month and has already increased his distance by three feet."
