UPDATE: Encino Man Shot and Killed in Possible Home-Invasion Robbery

A .45 caliber bullet casing was found, but no gun was recovered, police say.

Update, 6:22 a.m., Thursday: A man of about 80 was shot and killed Thursday morning in what may have been a home-invasion robbery inside a house in an upscale Encino neighborhood, police said.

KNX radio said homicide detectives were investigating the possibility of a home-invasion.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of Andasol Avenue, just south of the Ventura (101) Freeway, said a desk officer at the Los Angeles Police Department's West Valley Station.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died, said LAPD Officer Cleon Joseph of the Media Relations office. Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his relatives.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of Andasol Avenue, just south of the Ventura (101) Freeway, said a desk officer at the Los Angeles Police Department's West Valley Station. The man was taken to a hospital, but his condition was not made available.

The circumstances of the shooting were under investigation, the officer said.
