Encino to Join in World Record Breastfeeding Attempt

Nursing moms and babies will gather at A Mother's Haven in Encino as part of The Big Latch On, a national event to support World Breastfeeding Week.

Encino-area moms will be joining in an international attempt to break the record for the most women breastfeeding at one time. On Saturday, at exactly 10:30 a.m., moms from the San Fernando Valley will gather at in Encino to attempt to get their babies to latch on and breastfeed for at least one minute.

The event is called the Big Latch On and is being held in part to celebrate national breastfeeding week which ends Sunday. Organizers hope to raise awareness and promote breastfeeding.

Originating in New Zealand in 2005, last year the event recorded 9,826 nursing moms in 325 sites in 16 different countries, according to the Big Latch On.

A Mother's Haven, located at 15928 Ventura Blvd., is an educational center and boutique for babies and new moms. In addition to baby clothing and supplies, A Mother's Haven offers prenatal, postpartum and early childhood enrichment classes.
