LOS ANGELES, CA — A Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad shutdown the area around Victory Boulevard and Balboa Monday morning following a report of a grenade found near the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area.
The call came in shortly after 11 a.m., and police cordoned off the area as the bomb squad investigated. Crews clearing out a homeless encampment found the grenade, reported KFI.
“The area was closed down for two hours,” said Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Officer Jeff Lee. “They were able to determine it was an inert grenade.”
