L.A. Times Digs Encino Farmers Market

The paper calls the weekly market "one of the two best in the San Fernando Valley."

Los Angeles Times writer David Karp paid a visit to the Encino Farmers Market recently and had a whole lot of nice things to say, including that it is "one of the two best in the San Fernando Valley."

Some other interesting parts from the story:

  • It's on a par with Studio City, which the manager, Carole Gallegos, ran until 2011, but it's in a pleasanter location, in a park, with better parking.
  • The market's layout was recently reconfigured to accommodate expansion by an adjacent school, but sales have increased 30% since manager Gallegos took over two and a half years ago, she says.
  • A good catch for Encino is Burkdoll Farms, which has grown in Visalia since 1858 and mostly sells at Santa Barbara area markets.
The Encino Farmers Market takes place on the 17400 block of Victory Boulevard on Sundays betwen 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
