A fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon in a three-story home in a hilly, inaccessible area of Encino left three firefighters injured and heavily damaged the large residence.

About 75 firefighters were initially dispatched at 3:37 p.m. to 4440 Balboa Ave., said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Nearly an hour later, about 100 personnel were on scene and appeared to be getting a handle on the blaze, which began on the top floor.
