Masons Expand Their Reach Locally, Nationally, Internationally

Zoom provides a mechanism to bring Masons together although far apart; even interested non-members may participate.

VAN NUYS, CA -- Clarence F. Smith Daylight Lodge No. 866, Free and Accepted Masons (CFS Daylight Lodge), which normally meets in Van Nuys, cannot do so in person at this time due to the COVID-19 emergency. It does the next best thing: The Lodge meets informally online weekly, Friday evenings, 7PM, via Zoom video conference.

Members of the Lodge check in with one another to see how everyone is managing during the pandemic. The Zoom meetings lately have also included Freemasons who join in from across the land and across the sea.

For instance, two Masons recently participated in CFS Daylight Lodge’s Zoom meeting, signing in from the Philippines. Also Masons in Arkansas, Illinois, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Texas have been a part of the Lodge’s online gathering.

Freemasonry is the world’s first and largest fraternal organization. Deep and lasting friendships across the entire spectrum of diversity are among the goals and the rewards of Masonry. Masons across the nation and around the world develop an instant camaraderie with one another simply because they are Masons. As an unforeseen benefit of the current situation, these Zoom Fellowship meetings enhance this phenomenon.

One of Freemasonry’s traditions, however, is that the fraternity does not solicit members or ask men to join. Men must seek membership on their own initiative.

On the other hand, there is no reason why a non-Mason cannot ask to meet the members and learn about Freemasonry, particularly but not only in this time of relative isolation. One meeting that may interest the reader is on September 4, 2020, when the Lodge celebrates the US Constitution. It was described in this article: https://patch.com/california/encino/valley-masonic-lodge-celebrate-us-constitution-september-nodx .
