Moms Talk: Teaching Children Manners and Social Etiquette

Are kids today lacking basic manners and social etiquette?

This week’s discussion revolves around teaching children manners and social etiquette. Here's what Mom Council member Jill Krutchik had to say on the subject:

I was working at the Encino Little League snack stand a few weeks ago. All of the people working in the snack stand were moving as fast as we could to fill drinks, take orders, pass out food and manage money.

While trying to fill two drink orders with my back to the counter I heard a child say in a very loud voice, "Doesn't anybody work here? How can I get somebody to help me at this counter!?"

I turned around expecting to see a child, which I did. What I did not expect to see was the child's mother standing next to him with an almost proud expression on her face supporting her child's rude manners.

For the most part, the children that come through the snack stand are polite and respectful. But I wonder: Are parents doing a good job of teaching manners to the next generation?
