Nightly Mulholland Bridge Closures Scheduled

Expect full closure between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., beginning Thursday night, during a three-week period that might include weekends, official says.

This is a release from Ron Macias, community relations officer for the I-405 Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project.

Attention, commuters, residents and businesses in the vicinity of the San Diego Freeway (I-405) and the Mulholland Drive Bridge:

As part of ongoing reconstruction of the Mulholland Bridge, the contractor will drive piles to construct the bridge abutment beginning Monday, Sept. 12, for approximately three weeks.

For the first three nights, the contractor will conduct preparation work, which will require a lane closure on the west end of the Mulholland Bridge. Work crews with flags will direct two-way traffic through one lane along the west portion of the Mulholland Bridge between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

After the completion of preparation work, the contractor will need to close the Mulholland Bridge nightly to complete the pile driving operation.

Full bridge closures are anticipated to begin on the night of Thursday, Sept. 15, and last until the end of the anticipated three-week pile driving operation. These bridge closures will occur between the hours of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and some weekend work may be required.

Emergency vehicle access will be maintained and pedestrians will be rerouted to a safe area outside the construction zone.

Please note that the work is weather permitting and subject to change.
