Operation Gratitude Sending Care Packages to Military Displaced by Hurricane Sandy

Operation Gratitude, the Valley-based organization that sends care packages out to U.S. troops at home and overseas, began sending aid Friday to military famlies impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

The organization has offices in Encino and sends its care packages out from the Van Nuys armory.

The aid will go to a east coast military unit with more than 150 families who have either been displaced or made homeless by Hurricane Sandy, as well as an additional 750 families who lack power, drinkable water, or clean clothes and entertainment for their children.

The organization and its volunteers sent out five pallets of care packages, Battalion Buddies, and general supplies (food, hygiene items, clothing, blankets, handmade scarves and gift cards) to the families. The shipments should arrive at their destination Tuesday at the latest.
