Osama bin Laden Dead, President Says

Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden is dead.

President Barack Obama made a television announcement tonight (Sunday) to deliver the news.

"Tonight I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that has killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaida," Obama said.

Bin Laden was killed after a firefight, and forces took custody of his body, Obama said. No Americans were harmed, he said.

News reports say a feeling of "jubilation" is evident at the White House.
