Pet Monkey Lands Chris Brown In Legal Trouble
Singer Chris Brown faces up to six months in jail on charges stemming from an allegedly unpermitted pet monkey.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Singer Chris Brown is again facing jail time. This time, it's a pet monkey that has the singer in hot water.
Brown was charged with two misdemeanor counts involving a pet monkey he allegedly had without a permit, according to court papers released Thursday. If convicted on two counts of possession of a capuchin monkey between Oct. 31, 2017, and Jan. 3 without a permit from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the 29-year-old entertainer could face up to six months in jail. He is set to be arraigned Feb. 6 in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom. He also faces a $1,000 fine, according to Frank Mateljan of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office.
Authorities prepared a search warrant to raid his home after several people reported he had the monkey when he posted a picture of his young daughter, Royalty, holding the baby capuchin monkey on social media, TMZ reported earlier this year. Brown avoided the police raid by voluntarily surrendering the monkey he named Fiji.

The incident is just Brown's latest run-in with the law. Brown was arrested at his Encino home in 2016 following a day-long standoff with police, and he was arrested that same year after allegedly pointing a gun at a model. This year, a woman sued the singer, alleging sexual assault.
