Quiche Recalled at Gelson's Supermarkets

Consumers with soy allergies are warned to avoid eating several varieties of "America's Finest Gourmet" quiche.

State health officers Wednesday warned consumers with soy allergies to avoid eating several varieties of "America's Finest Gourmet" quiche sold primarily in the Southland at Gelson's supermarkets.

The warning refers to Glendora Quiche Co.'s five-inch Lorraine, broccoli, spinach, and green chile varieties with a date code prior to Sept. 2, according to the California Department of Public Health.

The parent company, AYOA Inc. of Los Angeles, initiated a voluntary recall of the product after state health officers identified the labeling omission of the soy allergen during a routine inspection. No illnesses have been reported, health officials said.

The products are packaged in individual clear cellophane wrap, about five inches in diameter, with a circular label, green and gold print, stating Glendora Quiche Co. "America's Finest Gourmet Quiche."

The quiche ingredients are listed on the back panel. The date code sticker is on the front label. AYOA Inc. immediately separated its entire inventory of recalled products and notified retailers, officials said.
