Record Heat And Rain In Store For Encino-Tarzana

Temperatures are expected to reach nearly 20 degrees above normal by midweek before a storm brings cooler temps and a chance of rain.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Southland may be in for some record heat this week when temperatures are expected to soar nearly 20 degrees above normal for this time of year.

According to the National Weather Service, a wide swath of Los Angeles will see daytime highs in the mid 80s by Thursday.

The short-lived heat wave has a shot at breaking LA’s heat record set in 1992, according to the weather service. Temperatures are forecast to reach 86 degrees Downtown and in the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys Thursday while hovering in the upper 70s along the Los Angeles coastline.

“Right now, the best bet is for really fair weather and above-normal temperatures for a good portion of the week, then you start getting into the latter part of the weekend and it starts to go downhill,” said Ivory Small, a Weather Service meteorologist told the Los Angeles Times.

The heat wave is caused by a ridge of high pressure, but it’s not expected to last long.
