San Fernando Valley Masonic Lodge Honors Teacher and Student.

Masons Support Public Education Each Year.

For 100 years, California Masons have been deeply committed to supporting public education. Historically, April has been declared Public Schools Month by the Grand Master of Masons in California.

Clarence F. Smith Daylight Lodge No. 866, Free and Accepted Masons, Van Nuys, CA (CFS Daylight), dutifully scheduled its Public Schools celebration for its April Stated Meeting. However, the event went off calendar due to the COVID-19 emergency. The Grand Master of Masons in California disallowed in-person meetings until further notice.

The celebration was deferred until Friday night, June 5, 2020. It took place “virtually” via video conference.

At that time, CFS Daylight honored Ms. Lindsay Humphrey, an outstanding English teacher of many years and an inspiration to her students at Birmingham Community Charter High School.

Also lauded was a graduating high school senior (name withheld for privacy), who participated in the lodge’s student essay contest on “any of our Founding Fathers who was also a Mason.” The student submitted a winning essay about Benjamin Franklin.

According to Mr. David I. Karp, a Mason for 29 years who chaired the event, “the honorees received enthusiastic acclaim, a certificate, and gift card for their outstanding work.”

CFS Daylight is proud to support public education. For more information about the lodge's doings, see https://www.facebook.com/cfsdaylight/ .
