Suspect Wounded In Officer-Involved Shooting In Encino
Investigators at the scene say they recovered a large knife and a replica gun.

ENCINO, CA – A man between 30 and 40 years old was taken into custody Sunday with multiple, but non-life threatening gunshot wounds suffered from an officer-involved shooting in Encino, where investigators at the scene say they recovered a large knife and a replica gun.
Officers were on patrol about 9:20 p.m. Saturday in the 5200 block of Shoshone Avenue when they encountered a man with a large knife, said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.
"They made contact with the suspect, who pulled out what (was) believed to be a handgun," Lopez said.

The suspect ran into a neighborhood and a perimeter was established, with a SWAT team being eventually called in, he said.
The suspect was communicating with officers, but was not following their commands, he said. He was eventually taken into custody about 3 a.m. in the backyard of a home.

The shooting occurred in the area of White Oak Avenue and Weddington Street.
No officers were injured and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Detectives located a replica handgun and a large knife at the scene, Lopez said. The suspect was taken to an area hospital.
