Valley Lodge to Present Hiram Award to 30-Year Mason

Masonic Lodges value their Members' devotion to the Lodge and to Masonic Principles.

VAN NUYS, CA -- Clarence F. Smith Daylight Lodge No. 866, Free and Accepted Masons (CFS Daylight), formed in 2017,will present its 2020 Hiram Award to Brother David I. Karp on December 10, 2020.

The Hiram Award ceremony will take place virtually via Zoom for obvious reasons. Before the pandemic, CFS Daylight Lodge was meeting semimonthly on Saturday mornings at the Van Nuys Masonic Center. It will return to its in-person meeting site in due time.

The Hiram Award, named for a legendary allegorical figure from the Bible, is presented to a Master Mason in California who has served the Lodge and the Masonic Fraternity with devotion over and above the ordinary. It is the highest honor (other than being Master of the Lodge) that can be bestowed on a member of a Masonic Lodge.

Having been initiated as a Mason in 1990 in another San Fernando Valley Lodge, Bro. David was attracted to and joined CFS Daylight Lodge in 2018, a year after its beginning, as its Saturday morning meetings fit his work schedule and family life preferences.

Upon joining CFS Daylight, Bro. David chose to become, and he still is, an active participant in the Lodge to help it thrive and grow. He has come to be an integral part of the Lodge’s success, volunteering in many ways, large and small, which is why he is being honored with the Hiram Award.

Freemasonry is the world's first and largest fraternal organization. Deep and lasting friendships across the entire spectrum of diversity are among the goals and the rewards of Masonry. Masons across the nation and around the world develop an instant camaraderie with one another simply because they are Masons.

CFS Daylight Lodge consists of an enthusiastic group of men – diverse by age, education, trade/profession, national origin, cultural heritage, religion, customs, and so much more -- who share common values and goals including improving themselves and the world around them.

The principle tenets of Freemasonry are Brotherly love, Relief and Truth. Masons value education, philanthropy, family, tolerance, diversity, community, personal growth and ethics. Bro. David lives by all of these as do his Lodge Brothers.

One of Freemasonry’s traditions is that the fraternity does not solicit members or ask men to join. Men must seek membership on their own initiative, as Bro. David did 30 years ago.
