Where to Cool Down in the Valley

There are 54 city-run summer pools now open, including the pools in Van Nuys, North Hollywood, Canoga Park and Northridge. Open swim time is free for seniors and children age 17 and younger. Adults are charged $2.50 ($2 with a library card).

The pool rules require that every child under 7 must be accompanied by an adult and the adult must be within one arm's length of the child at all times.

Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Aquatic Center

14201 Huston St., Van Nuys

On hot days, people from all over the Valley come to the pool on Huston Street in Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park. The pool is open until 8:30 p.m. during the week.

"On days like today, we get over 500 people in the pool," Nivar Rivera, director of the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Aquatic Center at the park, told Sherman Oaks Patch on Thursday.

Lanark Recreation Center

21816 Lanark St., Canoga Park

Hours: The pool is open 1-5 p.m. on weekends and 2-6 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 28. The pool will be open for an extended season daily from 1-5 p.m. Aug. 29 through Sept. 5.

North Hollywood Recreation Center

5301 Tujunga Ave., North Hollywood

Hours: The pool is open 1-5 p.m. on weekends and 2-6 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 28.

Northridge Pool

10058 Reseda Blvd., Northridge

Hours: The pool is open 1-5 p.m. on weekends and 2-6 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 28. The pool will be open for an extended season daily from 1-5 p.m. Aug. 29 through Sept. 5.

Valley Plaza Park

 6715 Laurelgrove Ave., North Hollywood

Hours: The pool is open 1-5 p.m. on weekends and 2-6 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 28.
