Escondido City Manager Calls it Quits After One Year on the Job
Graham Mitchell said he wanted to pursue other opportunities, including jobs outside of government.

ESCONDIDO, CA -- Escondido City Manager Graham Mitchell quit just after one year on the job, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Mitchell's resignation will be effective at the end of the year. The 47-year-old told the Union-Tribune he is exploring other opportunities, including jobs outside the public sector.
“In order to explore those kind of things it wasn’t very fair for me to continue to move on with a relationship with the city,” he told the Union-Tribune.

Before coming to Escondido in 2015 to take the assistant city manager position, Mitchell served for 12 years as Lemon Grove's city manager. Clay Phillips, the then-city manager, announced his retirement last year and Mitchell was promoted to city manager this past December.
Escondido Mayor Sam Abed said a search for a new city manager will begin shortly, according to the Union-Tribune.
