Escondido Seniors Back to Horsing Around After a Challenging Year
Dan the Clydesdale recently made a special visit to Redwood Terrace to greet residents and staff at the Escondido senior living community.

At roughly 1,900 pounds—more than the Los Angeles Chargers offensive line combined—Dan is one of the most beloved 19-year-old visitors to Redwood Terrace senior living community. After a long hiatus, the Clydesdale gelding will return this week to tour campus, meet with residents, and enjoy his favorite treats, carrots.
Dan belongs to Kathy Thistlethwaite, daughter of Redwood Terrace resident, Joyce Hartman. At 18.1 hands (or more than 6 feet tall), he’s a gentle giant with a patient disposition. When he’s not visiting his favorite older adults, he’s currently Kathy’s mounted archery horse.

With successful vaccination clinics now complete, this is one of the first social events Redwood Terrace will host since last spring. Beyond the wellness benefits of equine therapy, the community is most looking forward to getting NEIGH-bors back together.

“We’ve been so fortunate to welcome Kathy and Dan to campus before, but this visit is going to be incredibly special,” said Leif Cameron, Redwood Terrace’s executive director. “After such a challenging year, we can’t think of a better guest to get people outside and energize the entire Redwood Terrace family.”
