North County Man ID'd In Deadly Sidewalk Crash

The man died after being hit by a car while walking in Temecula.

FALLBROOK, CA — A North County man who was hit last week by a car as he walked along a sidewalk in Temecula died of his injuries three days later, officials confirmed to Patch. The man was publicly identified on Friday, a week after the tragic crash.

The crash happened on March 9 around 10:30 a.m. near a popular shopping complex in town. As he was walking in the area of Margarita Road and Overland Drive, an elderly man was struck by a man in his 20s in a Ford Mustang, sheriff's officials said the day of the incident.

That man was Frederic Blume of Fallbrook, according to the Riverside County coroner's office. He was 80 years old.

Following the incident, Blume was rushed to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where he died Monday at 9:02 p.m., coroner's reports indicated.

It's still not clear what caused the driver of the Mustang that hit Blume to cross over opposing lanes of traffic, go onto the curb and down an embankment, according to sheriff's officials. However, they said that drugs or alcohol are not suspected factors in the collision.
