Amber Alert Suspect Arrested in Rosemont

Authorities say the suspect assaulted two people before abducting his son early Wednesday morning. The little boy was taken to the hospital.

The suspect wanted in an Amber Alert abduction early Wednesday morning was arrested near Sacramento, authorities say.

Michael Steele, 34, allegedly abducted his son, Jacob, after assaulting a woman in her 40s and another man in his 60s at the 1800 block of Parrot Drive in unincorporated Eichler Highlands at around 4:30 a.m., according to the San Mateo Sherrif’s Deparment.

He then fled in his 2014 grey Toyota Tacoma along with his 5-year-old son, who was taken by force, sheriff’s Det. Salvador Zuno said.

“For the safety of the child an Amber Alert was issued,” he said.

Steele was then spotted at around 6:55 a.m. in Rosemont along with his son by Sacramento sheriff’s deputies.

The child was transported to local hospital for an injury to his hand, Zuno said.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this case was asked to contact the San Mateo Sheriff’s Office or leave a tip at the Anonymous Tip Line, (800) 547-2700.
