Jessie's Country Kitchen Offers Home Cooking

When the operators of Ashley's Country Kitchen in Orangevale were looking to open a second location, they looked around at various communities but chose to set up shop in Carmichael.

Now, Jessie's Country Kitchen is open at the former location of at 7600 Fair Oaks Blvd.

The doors opened on March 23, said Laurrainer Weekly, who co-owns JCK with Gary Whitaker.

"We're from this area," Weekly said. "There's not a lot around here that's home cooked food."

Weekly said she and Whitaker wanted to take advantage of passersby on Fair Oaks Blvd. and have been well received by customers.

While opening a restaurant in this economic climate may seem difficult, Weekly said she feels confident in Jessie's Country Kitchen.

"People still have to eat so as long as you're affordable, people will come back she said.

Among the restaurant's specialities are the country fried steak, eggs Benedict and the New York steak.

There are 11 staffers and there is a banquet room for group gatherings including and a local Toastmasters group.

Weekly said she applied for a liquor license but had to wait due to the building's past history with the night club and police issues.

"This is a welcome change for Carmichael," Weekly said.
