Man Allegedly Punches Deputy Responding to Domestic Disturbance Call

A report of a domestic disturbance in a Carmichael home led a Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy into an unsolicited wrestling match with a man inside the home Wednesday, March 13.

The altercation took place in a 5100 block Hackberry Lane residence when deputies were dispatched to a report of possible domestic violence in progress at the suspect's apartment, according to a deputy's report.

The reporting party told officers she heard a female yelling for help, banging sounds, and the sounds of someone being assaulted from inside the suspect's apartment, according to the report. Deputies arrived and heard banging and yelling from the apartment, and, according to deputies, a female appeared at a second-story window in an attempt to escape the apartment, then retreated back inside.

"It was pretty clear that a domestic dispute was going on between [the suspect] and the female that was there with him," said Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos.

According to the report, deputies found the front door open, and the suspect inside it. The report explained the suspect, Landon Moulton, 22, confronted the deputies at the door and refused to let them inside to check on the female despite being ordered to do so.

"[Moulton] made two attempts to close the front door on deputies, then swung his fist at the deputy," according to the report.

Moulton was handcuffed after wrestling on the ground with the deputy for a short period of time, according to the report.

The woman later stated she was unhurt and no domestic violence had occurred. S1 was arrested and booked at the main jail.

"Without her being a “willing victim”, and in light of the fact that she was not injured or complaining of any pain, no charges related to assault or domestic violence were incurred by Moulton," Ramos said.

Moulton did, however, obstruct deputies during the course of them trying to figure out what was going on, Ramos added.

"The witness statement basically said that she could hear the argument, and that the woman was screaming for the man to stop and leave her alone."
