Officials: Fire in Carmichael Duplex Caused by Candle

A fire at a duplex on Brickwell Way just after midnight today was caused by an unattended candle, fire officials said.

At 12:23 a.m. this morning, firefighters arrived to a duplex at 1377 Brickwell Way to find two units well involved with fire.

A second alarm was called due to the large amount of fire and the potential of it spreading to adjacent homes. The first alarm of more than 30 firefighters brought the fire under control in 23 minutes.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported. Preliminary fire investigation shows an unattended candle as being the fire cause. The Red Cross was called out to help the displaced residents.
