Robbery Suspect Shot by Deputy at Carmichael Pharmacy

A Sacramento Sheriff's deputy shot a suspect during a robbery at a Carmichael pharmacy Tuesday evening.

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery in progress at the CVS Pharmacy in the 4900 block of Marconi Avenue.
When they arrived they found the suspect still inside the business, holding what looked like a handgun, with an employee standing several feet away, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
After refusing to drop the gun, one of the deputies fired a single shot at the suspect’s upper body.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
“If and when the suspect recovers from his injury and is deemed medically fit for incarceration, he will likely be arrested on charges related to the robbery,” according to a news release.
The suspect’s weapon turned out to be a replica firearm, according to the sheriff’s department.
No one else was injured during the robbery.
The deputy involved in the shooting, a 25-year veteran of the department, will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation, which is part of the department’s policy.
