Should the Village Farmers Market Remain in the Village?

The Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District will meet to discuss weekly farmers market location options.

Members of the Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District plan to meet Thursday to discuss and evaluate how successful the Village Farmers Market has been in its latest location.

Back in November the Village Farmers Market relocated for the winter to drier grounds in the Scandinavian Designs parking about 1,600 feet from its original location in Plaza Park.

As the warmer weather draws closer and the lawns begin to dry from the winter's rain, the Park District boad wants to address any logistics that come along with the farmers market returning to the park in the Village.

"We just want to get out in front of the issue early," said District Recreation Superintendent Katy Albers.

The meeting does not necessarily mean the market is set to return to Plaza Park, but it won't preclude the idea, either, Albers said. The meeting is merely a means for District staff and market managers to get on the same page and hash out any issues the market had last year. One issue likely to be addressed will involve the impact increased foot traffic has on the park lawn, an issue that prompted the initial decision to move the market to its current location through the winter.

Albers explained the option to keep the market in Plaza Park is something the market managers can choose to do, it will just require the Park District to work with those managers to find out how that can be implemented the best.

The District Board will meet to discuss these issues on Thursday in the District administration building beginning at 7:30 a.m.
