District Suspends 6 in Del Campo Baseball Brawl

Five Cougars players, one coach suspended for fight with Yuba City.

Five Del Campo junior varsity baseball players and one coach will be suspended for their involvement in a brawl last week in a game Yuba CitySan Juan Unified School District officials have announced.

An investigation by Del Campo's principal and athletic director concluded this afternoon, district spokesman Trent Allen wrote in an e-mail.

"The following actions are being taken based on the information found during the investigation:

1. Two students are being suspended for two games.

2. Three students are being suspended for one game.

3. One coach is being suspended for one game."

The district did not release names or the results of specific discipline issues with students or staff, Allen said.

The coach's suspension stems from verbal comments he made to opposing players, Allen said.

Allen also pointed out no academic suspensions would be issued to the student players.
