Officers then responded to the Schooner Bay apartment complex after receiving a report that both the suspect and vehicle were in the complex's parking lot. As they arrived, they observed a gray vehicle matching the earlier description.

The officers say they approached a man and a woman who were standing near the garage and inquired if they'd seen the driver. Upon hearing this, the man jumped into the gray car and sped away.
The officers then pursued Hernandez, who allegedly sped north on Edgewater Boulevard and spun out and came to a stop In the 600 block. Hernandez left the car, police say, and fled on foot until an officer ordered him to stop. He was then safely taken into custody, police said.
Hernandez was booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of attempted carjacking, felony vandalism, property theft, reckless driving, and felony evasion of police officers.
