The ordeal began in San Mateo and ended in a cul-de-sac near Highway 101 sound wall, officials said.

SAN MATEO, CA –Two men from Oakland were arrested Monday in connection with a reported theft at Home Depot in San Mateo after leading officers on a vehicle chase and foot pursuit that came to an end in a cul-de-sac near the Highway 101 sound wall, according to officials.

Officers were called about 7 p.m. to the retailer at 2001 Chess Drive for a report of two suspects allegedly stealing hundreds of dollars of merchandise then fleeing in a black SUV, the San Mateo Police Department said.

Based on the description of the pair and their vehicle, the duo was spotted in the area, but then failed to stop for officers, the agency said.

A pursuit ensued that came to a halt at the commercial-area, cul-de-sac at South Amphlett Boulevard and Concar Drive. While the driver stayed in the vehicle and was arrested, the passenger took off on foot, police said.

"Understanding the dangers of following a fleeing suspect jumping over fences, officers methodically searched the area and were able to locate the passenger along Highway 101’s sound wall," the department said.
