FOSTER CITY, CA — Laptop thefts were reported Sunday and Monday from individuals at two Starbucks locations in Foster City, according to authorities.

As the people were working on their computers at the shop on Alma Lane and the Metro Center location, one male or a group of three walked up, snatched the laptops and ran off, the Foster City Police Department said.

The suspects were described as African-Americans in their late teens and were seen getting into a black car, officers said. Anyone with information on the crimes can call the department at (650) 286-3300.

The Foster City police also offered the following safety tips for folks who work on their computers at coffee shops:

  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times, and if possible, wear only one of the two earphones so you still can hear in case in case of immediate emergencies.
  • Consider picking a spot that is not near the doors as those are often easy in-an-out access for thieves.
  • Do not choose seats with your back to parking lots or open spaces so you can stay aware of approaching people.
  • Never leave personal property unattended.
