Crandall Says He Won't Seek Reelection

It may have seemed like an innocuous comment during last week's Fountain Valley City Council meeting. But when Larry Crandall mentioned that he wouldn't be back next year, it was that rare occasion when someone in politics definitively follows through on a campaign promise.

Crandall confirmed Friday that he won't seek reelection in November after 14 years on the council and three terms as mayor. It will mark the fulfillment of a promise he made during his final campaign back in 2008.

"I have one more term that I could run for, but being in favor of term limits, I should lead by example," Crandall said. "Fourteen years is a long time, and there are plenty of good folks who could step up and do a good job."

In addtion to serving as a member of the City Council, Crandall serves as chairman of the Orange County Sanitation District's Board of directors. Crandall was first elected to the Fountain Valley City Council in 1998, and has also served on the Fountain Valley School District's Board of Trustees, on which his wife, Sandra, now serves.
