Gas Prices Rise Sharply In Fountain Valley

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA —When is the last time you filled up your car? According to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service, the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Orange County has risen to $3.33 per gallon. This is the highest gas price recorded in the area since January, just one day after remaining unchanged.

The cost of fuel is 1.6 cents more than one week ago and 1.9 cents higher than one month ago but 12.7 cents less than one year ago.

“Since early February, gasoline demand has been steadily increasing while stocks have been gradually decreasing causing more expensive pump prices across the country,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson. “The good news is most motorists are not paying more than they were a year ago to fill up.”

While the national gas price average is the same price year-over-year, only 20 states can say the same. Across the country, the yearly difference ranges from as much as 25-cents cheaper to 10-cents more expensive.

According to AAA, West Coast motorists are paying the highest pump prices in the nation, with most of the region’s states landing on the nation’s top 10 most expensive list, with Hawaii ($3.35) and California ($3.34) remaining most costly markets.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose Tuesday to its highest amount since Jan. 3, increasing six-tenths of a cent to $3.382.

The average price has increased 13 of the past 14 days, rising 3.2 cents, including one-tenth of a cent on Monday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 1.7 cents more than one week ago and 4 cents higher than one month ago but 11.5 cents less than one year ago.
