HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — Orange County beaches can expect elevated surf over the next 24-hours, with isolated sets up to six-feet, the National Weather Service reported.

"South swells from 190 to 210 degrees, every 14-16 seconds will bring surf of 3- to 5-feet and higher" through Thursday morning, they said.

Great news for surfers, not so good for swimmers, they said. A high risk of strong rip currents could potentially wash swimmers out to sea, they said.

Beach hazards are issued when strong rip currents, elevated surf heights and minor tidal overflow are expected on local shores.

"Obey posted warning signs and flags, and always talk to a lifeguard before swimming," the NWS advised. Also, use caution when in or near the water, and always swim near a lifeguard.
