HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — An investigation was underway Thursday into the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a car in Huntington Beach.

The unidentified victim, described only as a male transient, was struck by a 2014 Toyota Prius about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at Beach Boulevard and Ronald Drive.

The man died at the scene, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.

A 19-year-old Huntington Beach man who was driving the Prius remained at the scene "and cooperated with the investigation," according to a police statement. "Alcohol and drugs are not suspected."

The driver, whose name was withheld, was southbound (on) Beach Boulevard when he struck the pedestrian, who was crossing eastbound from Ronald Drive, police said.
