ACWD Hosts 2nd Annual WaterClips Student Video Contest
Video Contest Challenges Tri-City Students to Get Creative About Preparing for Water Emergencies

Alameda County Water District offers scholarships to Tri-City students in grades 6-12 who have a passion for making videos and a talent for storytelling. Students who attend a school in Fremont, Newark or Union City can enter ACWD’s WaterClips student video contest to win scholarships up to $500. Entries accepted now through April 2.
The contest is in its second year and invites local students to showcase their digital media skills while drawing attention to an important water topic. Each entry will need to create an educational and engaging 30 second video on the 2021 contest theme: Water Emergencies – Plan and Prepare.
“Students are empowered to create entertaining yet effective videos encouraging our community to prepare for water service-related emergencies or other conditions, which may impact water safety or availability,” said ACWD Board President Aziz Akbari. “The contest taps into something this generation of students use every day – video editing apps on smart devices gives them the ability to create compelling and imaginative content.”

ACWD will award a total of six scholarships worth $500, $250 and $100 to participants in two groups, grades 6-8 and grades 9-12. Individual or group entries are accepted. Last year, ACWD’s first-ever student video contest generated 30 entries from students in schools throughout the Tri-City area and awarded more than $2,000 in scholarships to students and teachers.
Teachers can also win! Teachers in both groups who sponsor the most student submissions and/or the winning videos will receive classroom scholarships worth $200, $100 and $50.

“The District has enjoyed decades of partnering with area schools and teachers to provide water education. It gives us great pride to award checks to deserving students and teachers,” added Akbari.
