Are you paying $54 a quart for ordinary water?
You are, if you purchased a can of Safeway's Signature Chunk Chicken Breast
I recently purchased cans of Signature Chunk Chicken Breast from Safeway labeled 9.75 oz. net weight. When opening the can I found a enormous amount of water in the can. So I drained it by pressing the lid onto the chicken and letting the water flow out of the can. I then weighed the chicken which weighed 4.8 oz. Doing the math that comes out paying about $54 a quart for the water contained in the can. The can states the serving size is 2 oz and the can is holding about 5 servings. So my question becomes: how do you get about 5, 2 oz servings of chicken, about 10 ounces, from a can of chicken that only contains a drained weight of 4.8 oz of chicken? This is why, if you intend to be an enlightened consumer, especially if you are on a tight budget, you need to carefully read labels and make sure you are actually getting what you pay for. I have reported this to the State Department of Weights and Measures.
